A static QR code has the target URL encoded directly into the matrix. If you want to change the URL later, you must print a new code.
A dynamic QR code carries a short redirect link (https://qrody.com/r/ab12cd) instead. Behind it sits a redirect whose target you can change any time in the dashboard — the printed design stays the same.
Prerequisites
- Tier 2 (Starter) or higher
- A non-archived static code
Steps
- Open My codes.
- In the row of the code, click To dynamic.
- Confirm — a new short slug is minted and linked to the code.
The QR matrix on the detail page is different than before — the old printed code still points at the old URL, the new dynamic code is the one with the redirect. If you want to switch to the new one, download the QR image and replace your print material.
What if the code is already printed?
Pragmatic route: configure a redirect at the old URL (e.g. the old domain → new domain) so the printed static code keeps working. Use the dynamic code for any new prints.
Tip: plan ahead
If you print a code on long-lived material (trade-show banners, product packaging, back of business cards), start with a dynamic code. Slightly more expensive up front, but you avoid losing the print as soon as the target URL changes.
